Luke,

I had a DSL connection for year. Many times DSL connections will be arbitrarily "capped" by the DSL company and you have to request it to be "uncapped" as I had to do. Make sure your lines are as short as possible and away from devices that give out interference like a monitor. Also maybe try to lessen (or eliminate) extraneous devices connected to your phone line because they can cause line noise or reduction in line current.

Keep in mind that even with a good speed you may still have occasional slowdowns and pauses.

Also, check out dslreports.com for tech tips and speed tests.

And finally: WinMX

Well, I've had DSL for two years, so I'm no stranger to it. I think the reason for our current slowdown is distance from the CO - they say you should be within 18 k ft, and I think we're something like 20.1 k ft.

FWIW, I plugged the DSL modem into the phone line where it comes in the house (and disconnected the house wiring), and the speed was no different.

I'll do some investigating, but I think this is just a distance issue...
