You need to realize the make up of Madison and Racine are a lot different. You have the government workers and university workers that appreciate living near where they work and are willing to fix up those houses in Madison. Racine has the poorer elements living in those old homes and they have neither the money nor expertise on how to fix those older homes up. Racine does have its historic district that borders the blighted areas. Our harbor and downtown are very nice.

I like the new color.

It's a shame more people aren't willing to fix up older homes. I know it's a tremendous investment, but they have a lot more character ("more architecturally interesting") than the McMansions that are springing up all over the place. I'd rather have a home in some kind of architectural style I can name (be it Colonial, Victorian, Plantation, Craftsman, Cape Cod, whatever), even if it's of modest size, then a huge cookie-cutter house that looks like it sprang up in the middle of nowhere.
