I made mulled cider in my mom's crystal pitcher once. I had the same problem. Oops!

Get a plastic pitcher or use warm water and let it sit longer.

Plastic is what I eventually pour things into (with ice), but I'm always afraid the plastic would melt.

As far as not using boiling water goes, my understanding is you have to use it for herbal tea.

My mother was making iced tea one time several years ago. She had brewed it in the coffee maker and was pouring the hot tea into a container. Unfortunately, instead of grabbing one of her glass pitchers, she grabbed mine that was made of plastic but otherwise identical (same shape, size, etc.). It did indeed melt the plastic.

Brewing in the pitcher from BB&B now. So far so good.

Ah, I have no idea about herbal. I brew my regular tea in warm water in a plastic pitcher. I don't like how they get stained after a while. Maybe I'll try that glass one from BB&B.

That pitcher looks remarkably like the one my mother intended to use, only hers lacked the handle.

I pity the poor fool who don't use my pitcher...
