It took me a long time to learn how to drive a manual transmission. I think my parents just got too nervous. I went out a few times with my parents, and got very frustrated. I gave up for a while, and then decided to start trying by myself, which went much better. (Although, figuring out how to get somewhere safe to practice is tricky..)

My first car was a manual. Funny thing is that neither of my parents really know how to drive a stick shift. I learned from a family friend of ours. Never gave it a good chance so I ended up selling it. They're supposed to be cheaper and better on gas.

All I can recall from my short schooling in the world of manual transmission is "STOP RIDING THE CLUTCH!" Still gives me nightmares.

My favorite memory of learning to drive stick was going out with my Dad one day. We got to the intersection of two roads not far from home, and the car stalled as I was trying to leave the stop sign and turn left. He yelled at me and I started crying and all he could say was "Crying is going to get you nowhere," which is true, of course. It's just not a good thing to say to me when I'm already crying.
