Small world. I revived a dead Sony Vaio PCG-FX370 last year. Fortunately for me, it was only a fried hard drive, which was much easier to fix.

Or would have been, if the tiny little screws holding the drive in the mounting bracket weren't practically welded in place. I couldn't get a single one loose. I finally ended up having to get a new bracket at some outrageous price. But it works great now.

I watched a coworker try to take apart his powerbook to replace the cd drive. The problem was that the little tiny screws basically turned to dust when he was trying to get them out. I don't know what he ended up doing, drilling was not practical at all, and it was too small of a space to get a pair of plier in to grab the screw. The cd drive worked fine for reading cds, but would make a very ominous grinding noise when fed a blank.

That's no good.

I remember when I first started looking at everything a few months ago I was quite perplexed on how everything came apart. That's when you go "how hard should I try pulling?" Once I got it figured out, though, it wasn't too tough.

I hope I don't have to do it all again, though.
