I'd hope that the only reason for requiring more frequent renewal of driver's licenses is for safety reasons, and not solely for monetary reasons.

That being said, I have no problem with required testing of elderly drivers. If Mr. Darby is in the kind of condition he thinks he is, he'll have no problem passing the test.

The comparison you make with drunk drivers is quite appropriate. There are a lot of people who think they are fit to drive and clearly are not, even when sober. I'd rather the state get involved now and tell someone they can't drive, instead of waiting until they've hurt or killed someone to show them that they should not have been driving.

seems fair to me, if money is an issue maybe they should discount the prices on renewals for seniors (they seem to get discounts everywhere else). I think the state should absolutely get involved in telling those like Mr. Darby whether or not they are fit to drive. The less maniacs on the road, the better.
