It was disturbing enough at times to see how the school lunch program changed throughout the years while I was in school. It's even more disturbing to see that most schools only serve what would be considered "junk" food.

Perhaps most disturbing of all is the fact that parents are as much to blame, if not more so, than the schools. Instead of teaching their children healthy eating habits, they feed the kids something fast, convenient, and something that won't cause a fuss. Unfortunately, that's almost always junk food.

Even when schools don't serve "junk" food it's often pre-packaged/cooked/etc and not very healthy. "Look at the boxes the government sent us!"

In this case, I really don't think parents have that much to do with it, other than perhaps not paying enough attention to what food the school serves. Beyond making their kids' lunches every day (and in turn not giving them any money for food at school), I don't know how much more parents can do. As much as parents can teach, I think many kids are simply going to pick junk food if given the choice regardless.

I found this today and thought it was appropriate to the discussion.

I didn't like McD's before seeing Super Size Me, but now I refuse to ever step through its doors again. Sickening.

You mean you don't want to go to MAC-DONALDS to get some FRENCH FRIES? Coaches eat free!

My parents tell me I liked McD's when I was a little kid, but I honestly don't remember that.
